August ends with 88 COVID-19 deaths

Da­ta from the Min­istry of Health yes­ter­day showed that the first 16 days av­er­aged 1.5 deaths per day but there were 4.2 deaths dai­ly in the sec­ond pe­ri­od. This is de­spite the fact that there was no sig­nif­i­cant dif­fer­ence in the num­ber of dai­ly re­port­ed cas­es among the to­tal 7,636 re­port­ed for the month.

Based on the min­istry’s COVID-19 dash­board for yes­ter­day, 4,144 peo­ple have suc­cumbed to COVID-19 and its re­lat­ed com­pli­ca­tions since the start of the pan­dem­ic in March 2020.

The min­istry re­port­ed that on Au­gust 17, 3,390 of those were not ful­ly vac­ci­nat­ed, 304 were ful­ly vac­ci­nat­ed and 390 oc­curred be­fore May 24, 2021.

The min­istry al­so re­port­ed 182 new pos­i­tive cas­es, tak­ing the num­ber of ac­tive cas­es to 5,694, 665 less than at the end of Ju­ly.

Up to yes­ter­day, 217 pa­tients were in hos­pi­tals and step-down fa­cil­i­ties.

Vac­ci­na­tions con­tin­ued at a slow pace, how­ev­er, as there were 716,407 (51.2 per cent) ful­ly vac­ci­nat­ed peo­ple and 683,593 peo­ple with ei­ther a sin­gle shot of a two-dose vac­cine or none at all.

Health per­son­nel al­so ad­min­is­tered 168,246 vac­cine boost­ers. Among those hos­pi­talised through­out the pan­dem­ic, there were 4,062 ful­ly vac­ci­nat­ed peo­ple and 16,129 not ful­ly vac­ci­nat­ed.
